After introducing Edmonton to her unique Adopt A Shop initiative in 2020 as a way to support local businesses in the wake of the pandemic, local blogger and co-founder of the #StopAsianHateAlberta movement, Linda Hoang recently revealed that this year’s edition will feature food and beverage businesses from both Edmonton and Calgary.

Similar to previous iterations, the #AdoptAShopAB Foodie Edition will offer Albertans an opportunity to support their favourite food and drink spots by signing up to spend a minimum of $25 at one (or more) participating location.

To determine this year’s list of adoptees, Hoang enlisted the help of Calgary-based food writer Carmen Cheng, and after gathering 300 food and beverage nominees from Albertans via social media, Hoang and Cheng each selected 50 businesses from Edmonton and Calgary

Each featured business has five slots available for Albertans to adopt, and from now until May 30, everyone who signs up or shares their participation on social media in the required format will be automatically entered for gift card prizes provided by ATB Financial to select participating businesses.

More information about the #AdoptAShopAB initiative along with each city’s signup sheet can be found online.
