It’s been roughly two years since Vancouver restaurateurs Michael and Victoria Tran opened the doors to their Vietnamese eatery Lunch Lady, and for the first time since its inception, the restaurant’s inspiration and namesake, chef Nguyen Thi Thanh, has travelled to town to join in the celebration.

Although her lunch spot in Ho Chi Minh City was already a local landmark in its own right, chef Thanh became known to the world as “The Lunch Lady” after being featured on Anthony Bourdain’s No Reservations in 2009.

Chef Thanh headed up an exclusive six-course dinner experience this past weekend that sold out almost immediately, however, Vancouverites will still have a chance to see the legendary Vietnamese chef in action for the remainder of the summer.

Chef Thanh will be on site at Lunch Lady Tuesdays through Fridays from noon to 3 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. Restaurant guests will also have an opportunity to purchase chef Thanh’s recipe book while supplies last.
