After introducing herself to the Canadian music scene as the frontwoman for Calgary-based band Copperhead, singer Elle Celeste recently released her debut solo album, Call On Me. Almost picking up where Copperhead left off, the eight-track album features a familiar fusion of punk, ambient, and electronic sounds with a sprinkling of traditional elements.

Celeste’s bold lyricism and authentic storytelling is also on full display throughout the album. The talented singer pulls no punches and delves deep into her own personal experiences, while covering tough topics like addiction, sexuality, and more.

We recently had the chance to chat with Celeste, who took some time to share a few of her top food and drink recommendations in her hometown of Calgary.

Breakfast

Blue Star Diner. This place has the best breakfast/brunch in the city. Chicken and waffles, beautiful eggs Benny, and oats with fruit. They have a huge menu and a lot of options for GF people.

They also have incredible milkshakes that you can have to stay or to-go if you want to take a walk in Bridgeland and/or the riverwalk.

Lunch

I absolutely am obsessed with the First Street Market. If you are with friends and no one can decide on what to eat, or with different cravings, First Street Market is the perfect spot. You can get a killer salad, pizza, pasta, burgers, tacos, sandwiches, soup, noodles, seriously almost anything you have a craving for.

They have lots of non-alcoholic options, and if you like a cocktail or craft beer with lunch, they have you covered.  They also have lots of indoor seating, and if the weather is nice, the market backs onto a park where you can sit on the grass and have your lunch. Highly recommend it.

Dinner

Ten Foot Henry! Great small plates for sharing with lots of variety and the cocktails are fantastic too! Don’t forget to make a 'reso', this place fills up fast.

Drinks

The Ship and Anchor Pub forever! Although the food is great, the Ship will always be one of my favourite places to have drinks with friends. I have always loved how eclectic the patrons, and the Ship does an excellent job making everyone (except absolute assholes) feel completely welcome.

They have a massive tap list and lots of options, they are open late every night, and it is always dimly lit so you feel extra confident (until 2am sharp when the floodlights come). Also, the staff are so sexy and smart and funny, but I don’t recommend telling them how you feel, it can get you into trouble.
