One Day in Charlottetown: Top Chef Canada Season X competitor Kim Conway

The Top Chef Canada contestant's favourite food and drink spots in Charlottetown, PEI

Sometimes all it takes to start on the path toward becoming a professional chef is being at the right place at the right time. For Top Chef Canada Season X contestant Kimberly Conway, the opportunity to dive head first into the world of culinary arts came when she was given a chance to help with prep while working as a dishwasher at a local restaurant.

Since that fateful day, the Charlottetown-based chef has worked her way through a multitude of East Coast eateries, eventually becoming a sous chef at Terre Rouge Craft Kitchen under TCC Season 8 alum Lucy Morrow

Now at the helm of the culinary program at P.E.I.’s popular Brickhouse Kitchen and Bar, chef Conway to showcase her prowess for both inventive regional cuisine and the art of fish butchery.

We recently had a chance to catch up with the talented Top Chef Canada competitor, who filled us in on a few of her favourite food and drink spots in her hometown of Charlottetown.

Leonhards Cafe & Restaurant. This place might be the cutest cafe you’ve ever seen. The line is usually out the door, and believe me it’s worth it. Being lactose intolerant makes finding a good breakfast place hard, however if I am going to splurge and eat dairy, eggs Benny from here is where I go.

Lunch

Receiver Brass Shop. Usually around lunchtime I am pretty undecided if I want to eat lunch or breakfast foods. Receiver has both options! Their breakfast bowl is my absolute favourite, followed closely by their breakfast sandwich! Also, they have the best coffee in town!

Dinner

Slaymaker & Nichols. The only gastropub in P.E.I., it’s a must-eat for any important dinner! The inside is dark and high end, the cocktails are some of the best, and the food always hits the spot! Go in the summer and sit on their cute patio!

Hop Yard. Pop a seat at the bar, listen to records and drink some great beers. The vibes inside Hopyard are hard to pass up. Grab a little bite from the delicious food menu that is constantly changing! Beer and great food, it’s the perfect place for drinks on any given night.
