A modern and boozy take on the classic apple cider

Warm and comforting apple cider is a winter and holiday favourite. Madeleine MacDonald, bar manager of Calgary's Model Milk, updates the classic version with Calvados, sherry and bitters.

1 oz. Calvados
1/2 oz. Manzanilla sherry
1/2 oz. lemon juice
1/2 oz. simple syrup
1 dash Scrappy’s Cardamom Bitters
high-quality apple juice
nutmeg, for garnish

Combine all ingredients, except for apple juice, in a mixing glass and stir (without ice)

In a pot over the stove, in a microwave, or using the steam wand of an espresso machine, warm apple juice.

Pour mixture from mixing glass into a coffee or tea mug, and top with warm apple juice.

Garnish with grated nutmeg.
