Here's where to find live music in Calgary this month

Calgary is really bringing it this month for live music and that is largely thanks to the 2022 Canadian Country Music Awards coming to town next week.

CCMA-related happenings aside, here are some interesting artists and venues to check out in Calgary throughout September.

Jay Bowcott presented by Stagehand and the Calgary Downtown Association (September 2)

Jay Bowcott is a homegrown folk-rock artist and will be performing a free event on 100 West Block of Stephen Avenue on September 2 at 11:45 a.m., presented by the Calgary Downtown Association and Stagehand

Stephen Ave is full of amazing restaurants to check out while you're in the area, such as The Bank and Baron Pub for some great drinks, sandwiches or flatbreads or Palamino Smokehouse for some delicious BBQ dishes.

Homegrown Country at The King Eddy with Dani Strong and Mallory Johnson (September 3)

Canadian country artists Dani Strong and Mallory Johnson will take the King Eddy stage on September 3. These two powerhouse vocalists are sure to put on an amazing show you don’t want to miss. There is no cover for this show, call King Eddy to reserve a table.

Nate Waters Quartet at Betty Lou's Library (September 6)

Saxophonist and multi-instrumentalist Nate Waters will perform as the Nate Waters Quartet at Betty Lou's Library. Betty Lou's Library is a Prohibition era-inspired bar with a great menu of food and drinks to enjoy while watching some great live music. Cover is $10. Call Betty Lou's Library to reserve your table for the show.

Jake Vaadeland & the Sturgeon River Boys in Calgary (September 15)

Jake Vaadeland and the Sturgeon River Boys bring their Western Canadian tour to Calgary on September 15. Performing at South Block BBQ, this is a show you don’t want to miss. There is no cover for this event, so head to the South Block BBQ website to reserve a table.

Megan Dawson and Flaysher at King Eddy (September 16)

Country-pop meets country-rock. Join the CMAB-nominated artists on September 16 for a co-headline at the legendary King Eddy. Tickets are available via Showpass.

YYC Music Awards (September 18)

The YYC Music Awards recognizes some of Calgary’s best up-and-coming artists at the annual YYC Music Awards on September 18 at the Grey Eagle Event Centre featuring performances by ZENON, Sargeant X Comrade and more. Tickets are available via Ticketmaster. For some pre-awards show dinner, head to one of the Grey Eagle Event Centre's restaurants such as Blaze Bar and Grill or the Stage Bar for some cocktails.

Static Shift at Blues Can (September 22)

Join rock band and winners of CTV’s The Launch at Blues Can on September 22. Show starts at 8:00 p.m. and is free to attend.

Angela Verbrugge Quartet at Asylum for Art (September 30)

Vancouver jazz vocalist Angela Verbrugge will perform with her quartet at the Asylum for Art on September 30. Check out the MOB Cafe while you're there for some delicious drinks, appetizers and entrees. Tickets are $25 and are available via the Asylum for Art website.
