Calgary has long been known as one of the country’s top regions for housing interesting breweries and microbreweries, and the past year has been no different. From Best of Kin, Tailgunner Brewing, and Two House Brewing launching in the emerging craft beer community of Sunalta to Vancouver’s acclaimed 33 Acres Brewing opening its first out-of-province expansion in The District at Beltline, here are six new breweries and taprooms worth checking out in Calgary.

33 Acres Brewing Company

Vancouver’s acclaimed 33 Acres Brewing opened up its first out-of-province expansion this spring in The District at Beltline. At the sleek and spacious two-storey taproom, guests can choose from a variety of interesting eats meant to compliment the brewery’s most popular pours.

Best of Kin Brewing

The most recent of three new breweries that have opened this year in Sunalta, Best of Kin Brewing launched this September with three signature brews and a mix of seasonal creations. The taproom is warm, inviting, and packed to the brim with character and charm. In addition to its own offerings, the brewery routinely features some of the most popular local brews from around the region.

Bottlescrew Bill's Brewery

Known by many longtime Calgary residents as a 10th Avenue institution, Bottlescrew Bill’s pub took the pandemic as an opportunity to reimagine its identity. In late April, the pub opened a brewery next door in the space formerly known as Buzzards where it now serves some very reasonably-priced libations, including 13 made-in-house beers on draught and 13 guest taps.

Evil Corporation Brewing

Although Canadians were able to get their hands on some of its products prior to 2022, Evil Corporation Brewing celebrated the grand opening of its first brick and mortar brewery in southwest Calgary earlier this year. The brewery and taproom offers up eight beers on tap along with an experiential, almost-dystopian aesthetic reminiscent of 1980’s science fiction.

Tailgunner Brewing Co.

Another of Sunalta’s newest watering holes, Tailgunner Brewing Company has quickly become one of the area’s most popular community hubs. With ample seating for larger groups and space enough for live music, the brewery makes for an ideal after-work destination for beer-loving Calgarians.

Two House Brewing Company

In addition to a nice mix of house-made, local and European-style beers, Two House Brewing Company has become a wildly popular destination thanks in no small part to the ACME Pizza Co. located inside the brewery. The brewery also features some very unique non-alcoholic options on tap, including chocolate milk, black cherry cola, and Saskatoon lemonade.
