Five years may not seem like a long time, but what 18-year-old Brettyn Rose has accomplished since she entered the Canadian country music scene at 13 is nothing short of remarkable. Driven by the same passion and determination that helped her graduate high school in just two years, Rose continues to prove that success has no age barrier.
A multifaceted musician and songwriter with an innate ability to connect with audiences, it should come as no surprise that the Indigenous Okotoks-based artists has already been the recipient of several awards and discovery competitions.
With hundreds of live shows under her belt, including national anthem performances for the Calgary Flames and the Calgary Hitmen, Rose’s powerful vocal range, clear tone, and on-stage charisma has enabled her to reach a wide-spanning audience that continues to grow.
Rose is continually working on growing as an artist and developing new music. Her latest releases, “Running Out of Borrowed Time” and “All I Want Is You” saw the prodigious talent team up with producer and Juno award-winner Mike Little and his partner Candace Lacina in their home studio, Legion Lounge.
We had a chance to chat with Rose after her recent performance at The Blue Jay Sessions to find out where she loves to dine in Okotoks.
Breakfast
94 Take the Cake. This cozy bakery located in Old Town Okotoks is the perfect place to grab your favourite baked goods. Mine are definitely the delicious muffins (unless cake counts as a breakfast food), and the best part: everything is made from scratch!
Lunch
The British Chippy is a family run restaurant that brings a unique touch to Okotoks all the way from England with their tasty fish and chips. An added bonus of the awesome food: only organic potatoes and wild-caught fish are used.
Dinner
As a person who is always looking to try new pizza places, Pizzaberg Cafe has definitely made it to the top of my go-to list. Their pizza crust is the best!
Dessert
Big Dipper Ice Cream Shop. While this family run business--out of a house in Old Town Okotoks--may only be open in the summer, it is always lined up down the street and has become a staple of Okotoks and a staple of my own. They always have so many types and flavours of ice cream. There’s something everyone will love.
