Many Canadians will recall the epic tale of an $18 million dollar maple syrup heist in Quebec that made headlines around the world in 2012. The theft of Canada's most famous commodity was one of the largest in the country's history, so trust that was a lot of maple syrup!

Last week, Amazon's Prime Video just unveiled artwork, stills and a trailer for a six-part series inspired by said heist. The Sticky will premiere globally on December 6, 2024 on Prime Video and sees Margo Martindale in the leading role alongside Guillaume Cyr, Chris Diamantopoulos, and film icon Jamie Lee Curtis (who also serves as an executive producer).

All based on a true story, the series follows a maple syrup farmer (Martindale) who is pushed to the brink by government authorities threatening to take away her longstanding farm. This leads her to join focres with a Boston-based mobster (Diamantopoulos), and a French-Canadian security guard (Cyr) to thieve maple syrup from a storage facility.

While the actual heist took place over several sly months in late 2011 into 2012, we'll see if the thieving is sped up a bit for the new Prime Video series itself.

As an interesting aside, years ago Sony Pictures had accepted a film pitch to feature the sugary heist on the big screen. Allegedly the script was to be written by Family Guy writer, Chris Sheridan and set to star Jason Segel, but nothing ever came of it. The more ya know!

The Sticky premieres globally on Prime Video on Friday, December 6, 2024.
