Cuban Old-fashioned cocktail

Even if you can't get to Cuba, you can get a taste of Old Havana at Havana Vancouver. Newly re-opened, the restaurant combines authentic Cuban flavours with Pacific Northwest ingredients. Not in Vancouver either? Get the dance party started at home with this Cuban Old-fashioned cocktail.

To make brown butter washed Havana Club 7-year, simple take melted butter and add it to rum. Let it infuse in room temperature for a few hours, then put the mixture the fridge or freezer so the fat solidifies. Strain out the butter and the rum is ready to be used.

1/4 oz. Honey syrup
2 oz. brown butter washed Havana Club 7-year
2 dashes Apothecary Cacao-Coffee Bitters
2 dashes Angostura Bitters
1 slice Orange, for garnish
1 star anise, for garnish

Combine all ingredients in a mixing jar, stir with ice using a bar spoon for 40 seconds. Strain into a rocks glass over 3 large cubes of ice.

Garnish with orange wheel and a perfect star anise.
