Fun events to attend during the Country Music Alberta Awards weekend

An lively two-day country music event series comes to Calgary for the first time

Next weekend for the first time in the history of the organization, Country Music Alberta will be putting on its awards show (and associated events) in Calgary.

Happening on Saturday, April 1 and Sunday, April 2 at the Grey Eagle Resort & Casino & Event Centre, the star-studded weekend features full-band performances by plenty of recognizable Alberta country acts. Bands like Nice Horse, The Dungarees and The Prairie States, as well as up-and-coming acts including Brettyn Rose, Devin Cooper, Megan Dawson and chart-topping country singer Gord Bamford are just a few of the musical acts one can watch live over the two days.

While not everything throughout the weekend is open to the public, a handful of exciting events certainly are. If you're a live music fan living in the Calgary area, here's what you can experience during the 2023 CMAB Awards Weekend

Saturday, April 1

Industry Awards and Kick-Off Party (7 p.m. to late) - This fun evening will begin at 7 p.m. and feature performances by Kalsey Kulyk, Flaysher, Garrett Gregory, Foxx Worthee, and The Prairie States. Once the industry awards and performances have wrapped, there will be an open mic where attendees are likely to hear from an array of emerging and established singers.

Tickets are $25 and can be purchased via Eventbrite. A pizza buffet is included in ticket purchase and a full-service bar is available for attendees to order alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages.

Sunday, April 2

CMAB Songwriters' Stage (12 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.) - If you're looking for a captivating way to spend a Sunday afternoon, this is it! With two sets of songwriters' circles featuring a mix of notable and emerging musicians (lineups to be announced soon) expect to to transported by beautiful performances and moving stories by singers as they explain how their respective songs were brought to life.

Tickets are $25 and can be purchased via Eventbrite. A full-service bar is available for attendees to order alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages.

CMAB Awards Show FanZone (7 p.m. to 10 p.m.) - The crown jewel of the CMAB Awards weekend promises to be its high-energy awards show. Hosted by Top 10 country act JoJo Mason and CCMA Award-winning singer Hailey Benedict, the stage, lighting and electrifying performances by CMAB Award nominees collectively mke this a night not to miss!

FanZone tickets are $25 (plus taxes and fees) and can be purchased via Ticketmaster. A full-service bar is available for attendees to order alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages.
