One of Canada's top Thai eateries PAI is gearing up to host a cool street-market-inspired this Saturday in celebration of Songkran (Thai New Year).

Drawing inspiration from the many street markets one can experience across Thailand, this April 15 Songkran market will run from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and feature a mix of interesting local makers and retailers selling vintage clothing, vinyls, jewellery, handmade candles, and more.

Of course, there will be plenty of eats too, with PAI serving up tasty street eats including yum kanom jin (rice noodle salad), khao kha moo (braised pork hock on rice), khao mun gai (Thai-Style chicken rice), and papaya salad.

“We love being able to bring Thai traditions to Toronto and make our guests feel like they’re in Thailand,” said Jeff Regular in the event announcement. “As much as we do this for Nuit and the Thai community who are missing these experiences from home, we also do this for our team, who love any opportunity to do something unique and allow us to celebrate together and give everyone joy."

Net proceeds from the food stalls at this special one-day event at PAI's downtown location will be used to sponsor 10 students in northern Thailand to attend school for one year. Attendees are also able to make additional contributions via donation boxes throughout the market space.

“Part of the Songkran tradition is elders giving the younger generation new things for them to use, whether it is new clothes, shoes, books, etc. It signifies a fresh beginning for the new year. I want to continue this tradition and give back to my community by helping young students in need to attend school and assist them with buying new books, school supplies, and school uniforms,” said chef Nuit Regular.

PAI is located at 18 Duncan St. and its celebratory Songkran market event runs from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on April 15, 2023.
