After taking social media followers on a vicarious vegetable-forward journey through the pages of Jillian Harris’ Fraiche Food Full Hearts cookbook throughout the bulk of 2020, Edmonton chef Steve Brochu and his wife Lourdes announced in March of 2021 that they were ready to embark on a new plant-based adventure.

For the past 10 months, the acclaimed chef-owner of MilkCrate has filled his Instagram feed with a stunning selection of picture-perfect recreations from Lauren Toyota’s latest cookbook, Hot For Food All Day. Throughout that time, the husband-and-wife duo once again proved to both their followers and at times, themselves, just how much fun, innovation, and flavour can be found in the world of plant-based cooking.

For the few who are still unfamiliar with the international bestselling cookbook, in Hot For Food All Day, Toyota offers up more than 120 of her simplest and most delicious vegan recipes, along with a near-endless array of clever ideas for enhancing dressings, sauces, leftovers, and more.

“During these past 10 months we have both strived to be as plant based at home, as possible,” chef Brochu explained on his latest Instagram post. “Hot For Food All Day made it very easy, and fun! Full of flavourful recipes and insights on how to approach vegan cooking. On a personal note I have learned more from this cookbook than any other in a long while.”

MilkCrate is currently open Monday to Friday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Lauren Toyota's Hot For Food All Day cookbook can be ordered online.
