Yesterday, the B.C. Lions announced the tragic passing of former offensive lineman and MasterChef Canada Season 2 alum Jon Hameister-Ries at the age of 37.

Following a successful seven-year football career that saw him suit up and win a Grey Cup with the B.C. Lions, Hameister-Ries courageously set out to pursue a career in the hospitality industry.

After showcasing his skills in the kitchen and becoming a fan favourite on MasterChef Canada’s sophomore season, the Edmonton-born athlete-turned-chef went on to fulfill his culinary dreams by opening his own restaurant in Vancouver, Meat City.
