Now that spring has officially sprung and we’re inching closer and closer towards the summer, we are planning to make the most of the coming weeks by having as much fun as possible.

And since we know that there are few ways to have more fun than by checking out a lively drag show, we decided to compile a list featuring four events taking place in Calgary over the next month or so.

From Canada’s Drag Race Season 1 alum Kiara performing at The Rooftop to a unique Burlesque soundtrack tribute night at The Prairie Emporium, to a one-of-a-kind drag experience at Telus Spark, here are four fun drag events to check out in Calgary.

Canada’s Drag Race Season 1 competitor Kiara is coming to Calgary on May 28 with some of Toronto’s top drag performers, including Jada Shada Hudson, and local favourites Farrah Nuff, and Valerie Hunt. Hosted by Mona Moore, the Icons Drag Brunch is a stellar way to spend a Saturday afternoon.

Burlesque: An Xtina and Cher Tribute Show at The Prairie Emporium (June 4)

Popular event-space-meets-bar The Prairie Emporium is hosting a fun night of food, drinks, music, and drag on June 4—all inspired by the movie musical Burlesque

In addition to performances by country singer Taylor-Rae and drag queen Elektra Kute (as Cher), Alberta-based burlesque performer Bitch Sassidy will perform throughout the evening to a variety of tunes from the cult-classic film.

The Telus Spark Science Centre’s Spark After Dark is returning on June 10 for a fun night of fabulousness and science. In addition to exploring “the intersections of gender and sexuality” with talks from speakers from Calgary Pride, Centre for Sexuality, and more, event-goers can expect plenty of performances from local drag queens like Valerie Hunt, hand-crafted goodies from queer creators, face and body painting, a live music dance party, and more.

The Leopard Lounge at The Attic Bar and Stage (June 27)

On the last Friday of every month, The Attic Bar and Stage will be hosting the Leopard Lounge featuring the one and only Karla Marx. Patrons will enjoy creative comedy sketch shows, drag performances by Karla and special guests, and much more.
