Last Friday, a new pop-up from the folks behind ConMi Taco, Jellyfish Coffee and Phil & Sebastian opened in downtown Calgary.

Popping up in the evening from Wednesdays to Saturdays inside Phil & Sebastian's downtown location (102 8 Ave S.W.), Sometimes Rice boasts a mix of contemporary Asian eats and cocktails. It's always nice to see folks breathing life into cafe spaces that only operate during daytime hours, especially in the downtown core.

Its food menu comes courtesy of chef Mikko Tamarra (ConMi Taco, Fortuna's Row) and includes dishes like kinilaw (Filipino-style ceviche) with calamansi and garlic chips, okonomiyaki beef tartare, Peking-style beef tongue with scallion pancakes and more.

The cocktail list at Sometimes Rice has been created by Jellyfish Coffee and include a mix of playful creations like Kawaii (peach soju, gin, amaretto, strawberry, cucumber, egg while) and Mum's Favourite, Melona! made with Midori (Japanese melon-flavoured liqueur), coconut tequila, coconut cream and yogurt soju).

Sometimes Rice is located at 102 8 Ave S.W. inside Phil & Sebastian and open Wednesday to Saturday nights.
