One Day in Calgary: country singer Devin Cooper

The country-rock singer's favourite food and drink spots in Calgary

With an understated aptitude for creative and thoughtful songwriting, an unapologetic passion for authenticity, and a Southern-rock-influenced style of country that sets him apart from the pack, Alberta-based musician Devin Cooper has has solidified his status as one of the province’s rising country music stars.

After a steady stream of successful singles over the past two years, Cooper was once again selected as a standout among Project Wild prospects this year, earning himself a repeat spot in the coveted Top 12 where he’ll have a chance to win the competition’s prestigious $100,000 cash prize.

You can catch Cooper before he embarks on his Project Wild journey at The Prairie Emporium in Calgary this week for The Blue Jay Sessions: Anniversary Edition, where he’ll be joined by Desiree Dorion and Dani Strong for an intimate evening of live music, storytelling, food and beverages, and much more.

We recently caught up with the multi-talented musician, who filled us in on his favourite places to eat and drink in Calgary.

Breakfast

There’s just something about the Blackfoot Truck Stop Diner. Reminds me of growing up in a small town. Diner coffee, bacon and eggs or eggs benny. You just can’t beat it. It feels like home.

Lunch

When you’re craving that Nashville hot chicken sandwich with all the fixin’s, there’s only one place to go, Alumni. No more needs to be said. It’s just the best.

Dinner

Smoked meat, potato salad and unlimited options of whiskey...sounds like heaven. [Hayden Block is] a must go if you’re looking for some dinner or a late night snack.

Drinks

[Citizen Brewing has] great beer, a rad patio, cool staff and is stumbling distance from my house!
