One day in Calgary: Musician Amy Thiessen

The singer-songwriter on where to find awesome vegetarian food in Calgary

Amy Thiessen musician Calgary

As a veteran folk singer, Amy Thiessen has graced most stages in Calgary. Between touring and playing at a variety of festivals, like the upcoming East Coulee SpringFest in early May, Thiessen can be found at Raw Bar inside Hotel Arts, cozied up to a microphone and strumming her guitar to a mix of original songs and covers.

Being not only one of Calgary's most active musicians, but also a devoted yoga teacher for years, Thiessen has figured out how to fuse her musicianship and meditation together into #ProjectSundari, something she describes as "ancient trip hop", a blend of guitar, beats and vocals. For anyone out there who practices yoga regularly, we think you'll find it quite intoxicating.

If you think being a vegetarian in the heart of beef country is tough, then you need to check out the places that Amy loves to eat around Calgary.

Breakfast

I can't enough of the granola that's on the weekend brunch menu at The Nash. Homemade yogurt, amazing homemade granola. Mmm! Of course, they've got fantastic coffee too!

Lunch

Being a vegetarian, The Coup is always a go-to for me. The bright space always feels warm, the staff is so friendly, and they always have perfect veggie options for lunch. The falafel on a rice tortilla is my favourite!

Dinner

I have to go with Raw Bar inside of Hotel Arts. It's not just because I play there on Thursdays, but their modern Vietnaese cuisine is absolutely amazing! They have some fantastic vegetarian options on the menu, like the chili lemongrass tofu with snap peas, and the staff is so attentive.

Drinks

Cannibale in Bridgeland, for sure. The room has such a funky vibe, their patio in the summertime is always a blast and the bartenders make great cocktails.
