After the successful release of her award-winning sophomore album in 2020 and a steady sprinkling of singles in the time since, P.E.I.-based songwriter KINLEY recently dropped her newest full-length album, Daylight.
The 14-track album features a fusion of sounds that somehow feel both fresh and familiar at the same time. The talented multi-instrumentalist also enlisted the aid of a number of similarly skilled musicians throughout the album, culminating in what some critics have called “a masterclass in musical dynamism”.
When she’s not making music or working to make P.E.I. a safer place, there’s a good chance you can find KINLEY at one of her favourite food and drink spots in P.E.I. With that in mind, we decided to ask the multi-faceted musician to share a few of her top picks.
Breakfast
I love Budley's, the restaurant at the Charlottetown Airport. I always make sure I have enough time to enjoy their breakfast before I get on a flight to go on tour. I get the “Budley’s All Day Breakfast”. The home fries are perfection (and being from P.E.I. I know potatoes), and they even have gluten-free bread. The staff are so sweet and they already know my order when I sit down.
Lunch
I love going to Mr. Sushi for lunch. Their spicy salmon is delightful and it’s always fresh. They make it very quickly and they are always friendly.
Dinner
My favourite place to have dinner is at Cedar’s Eatery. It’s a family business that opened in 1979 and every meal I’ve had there has been amazing. The falafel and Lebanese rice are to die for. I always order a side of their famous Maroun’s garlic paste to put on everything. Also I can’t eat fries anymore without dipping them in the garlic paste. It’s so addictive!
Drinks
My pals and I like to go to Craft Beer Corner. It’s an easy breezy spot with locally made drinks. You always run into someone you know (okay maybe that’s all of PEI). I love the Watermelon Kiwi Seltzer because they taste like summer.
Side note: the bathrooms at Craft Beer Corner have a button you can press a button and the lights turn off and then coloured party lights come on with some funky tunes so you can have your own dance party.
