One Day in Montreal: singer Emi Jeen

The singer's favourite food and drink spots in Montreal

Following the success of her dark and evocative debut EP in 2020, Montreal-based singer Emi Jeen recently showed fans a new and more uplifting side of her artistic outlook on life with the release of her latest track, “One Million Perfume”.

Already well on its way toward commercial acclaim, Jeen’s new material maintains the emotionally raw and powerful vocals she has become known for, but departs from the darkness of her previous works in an effort to provide listeners with an authentic portrayal of her current self.

We recently had a chance to chat with the up-and-coming alt-pop singer, who took some time to fill us in on her favourite food and drink spots in her hometown of Montreal.

Breakfast

Breakfast is my favourite meal of the day! Invite me for brunch and I’ll be the happiest girl in the world. One of my favourite places is Arthurs Nosh Bar on Notre-Dame Street West. It’s very tasty and I basically would love to try everything on their menu.

I often tend to stay basic at breakfast and often order the eggs and salami. The Latke and pressed challah roll are just perfect. Plus, I love grabbing their famous icing cookies to go, they’re to die for!

For lunch, I like grabbing just a quick sandwich from Bossa in Verdun. It’s fresh and made with tons of love. My ultimate pick is their Chicken Parm sandwich with fried chicken, tomato sauce, fresh basil, and cheese. You can’t go wrong with Bossa!

Dinner

I travelled five years with my previous band and fell in love with Asia. When I miss it, I visit my friends at Satay Brothers. Everything is perfect in this gem: food, staff, price and drinks. It’s also my go to place when I have friends visiting town because it’s easy to share so many delicious dishes. You can’t go wrong with their Laksa soup, papaya salad, pork buns and satays.

Drinks

I love to have a nice drink with friends and the decor and cocktails from Milky Way are right on point. My go-to cocktails are a Cosmopolitan or an Aperol Spritz, but I also suggest their Rabelof Castle Buck.
