One day in Toronto: Top Chef Canada competitor Elizabeth Rivasplata

Elizabeth Rivasplata Top Chef Canada

In addition to skills and techniques, a chef's work is largely based on their perspective, a result of various factors, from their personal philosophy and background to places travelled and people met along the way. For chef Elizabeth Rivasplata, that's a wealth of experiences around the world to draw from. Originally from Lima, Peru, Rivasplata started her culinary training at a very early age before travelling and working in Miami, Italy and Spain, and eventually moving to Toronto.

Now the executive chef for the Rogers Centre and Aramark, Rivasplata has been the production chef for the Art Gallery of Ontario for four years, working alongside Anne Yarymowich as chef de cuisine, the executive chef with FAB Concepts/Mill St. Brewery, as well as research and development chef with Vancouver's Browns Restaurant Group. However, she's probably most well known as a cheftestant on season two of Top Chef Canada.

Rivasplata is now back on Food Network Canada, competing in Top Chef Canada: All-Stars, which premieres Sunday, April 2nd.

With her busy schedule, finding the time to eat can't be easy. Here are some of her favourite spots in Toronto.

Breakfast

Breakfast on a workday for me always equals coffee. [I always get] a latte at Super Jet or Ezra’s Pound; both are my go-to places to get my caffeine fix. Why? Great coffee and great service!

On my days off, I love brunch. My favourite spots are Farmhouse and Beast. Try the Mother and Child Reunion at Farmhouse, it won’t disappoint! At Beast, try the whole menu. Oh, and don’t forget the doughnuts!

Lunch

For a quick lunch, Pizzeria Libretto. Yes, I love pizza and Libretto has the best pies in the city. Banh Mi Boys or Porchetta are great for an epic sandwich, and Playa Cabana for lunch drinks and some great tacos.

Dinner

If you're going for drinks and a bite to eat, I'd say Bar Raval: great cocktails and wine selection, awesome food and the place is just beautiful too. Great ambience. For a full sitdown meal, my favourite spot right now is Dailo. In one word? Amazing!

For beer, there are so many amazing spots to go for a pint in T.O. Here are a few of my go-to places with fantastic selections of beer: Volo, Bar Hop, Wurst. These breweries: Indie Ale House, Duggan’s, Bellwoods and the list goes on.
