Especially in big cities, fashion, art and food go hand in hand to reflect its vibrancy and culture. Vancouver is no exception.

There, Alex Yu has made a name for himself as a fashion designer who creates womenswear and menswear that toes the line between reality and fantasy, and demonstrates happiness, nostalgia and wanderlust.

His collections have been featured in some of the world’s most famous fashion publications, including Elle Canada, i-D,  Indie, and Vogue in UK, China and Italy; and they have be a part of international fashion weeks like London Fashion WeekAmazon Tokyo Fashion WeekVancouver Fashion Week and others.

On June 23, Yu’s happy, creative and wanderlust-like fashion pieces will brighten up the stage at the PARK Show 2018 at George C. King Bridge in Calgary.

Outside of fashion design, Yu also enjoys delicious food. Here are some of his favourite places to dine in Vancouver.

Lunch

I tend to like quick lunches and Meat & Bread is the perfect place for a grab-and-go. Their classic, the porchetta, is out of this world and their in-house mustard is equally amazing.

Dinner

Cold sake. Gin and homemade gingerale. Date night at Kingyo Izayaka.

Kingyo Izakaya is my favourite restaurant in the city and I go there at least two to three times a month. Everything on the menu is amazing but my favourite dishes are the uni miso udon (it’s like a creamy carbonara but infused with the sea-flavoured uni) and chicken karaage. Their seasonal menus always have some gems hidden on it as well.

Drinks

Caffe Brixton is a little cafe/bar in Chinatown, and it has a retro flair. It reminds me a lot of my time in London, and it helps that their white sangria is absolutely delicious. The ambience and the environment is very laid-back, chill and not-pretentious.
