Halifax craft beer enthusiasts can look forward to discovering a new suds sanctuary this week when Garrison Brewing opens the doors to its latest spinoff, The Oxford. Located on Quinpool Road next door to the iconic Oxford Theatre, Garrison Brewing’s The Oxford sports a vintage speakeasy vibe, a taproom with 60 seats and 16 available taps, a pilot-brewery, a retail store, and ample private event space.
The taproom will feature a wide, rotating array of locally-crafted Garrison beer, along with a new nitro tap and a collaboration cider with fellow Nova Scotia craft brewer Bulwark. The new location doesn’t feature any food offerings yet, but guests are welcome to bring in outside eats, and Garrison Brewing president Brian Titus believes the space is perfect for pop-ups and future collaborations with the many eateries in the neighbourhood.
"It's been a fascinating process. Where others may be tearing down walls and using all new materials, we worked to preserve as much of the history of the building as possible," says Titus. "Exposing the original brick walls and 14-foot wood ceilings give The Oxford a nostalgic feel that you don't find often, even in a city as old as Halifax."
The Oxford is set to open this Friday with a selection of Garrison beer classics that include Tall Ship, Juicy!, DIPA, Pucker Up!, and Irish Red. The taproom and retail store will run Sunday to Thursday from noon to 10 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from noon to midnight.
