A brand-new culinary competition from Corus Studios is set to debut on Food Network Canada in the New Year, and while the Wall of Chefs format follows a familiar Food Network formula, the 10-episode season will bring a few exciting new ingredients to the table.
Hosted by Noah Cappe, each episode will feature four amateur cooks facing off in three phases of intense culinary challenges, judged by a rotating panel of 12 world-class Canadian chefs, for a $10,000 cash prize.
In the first round, competitors will be tasked with making their signature dish. After one chef is eliminated, the remaining three will face off in a black box-style challenge, and in the third round, the final two chefs are required to make a dish based on one of the judges’ most well-known culinary creations.
“We are thrilled to have Wall of Chefs join our growing Corus Studios catalogue as an original format that challenges home cooks to impress their favourite celebrity chefs. We believe this new series will garner mass appeal on an international scale,” said Lisa Godfrey, vice president of original content, Corus Entertainment. “Wall of Chefs marks the first time that the country’s biggest culinary leaders will be featured in one colossal series for the network and we can’t wait for audiences to get a taste of this high-calibre competition.”
While Food Network fans will undoubtedly be familiar with mainstays such as Lynn Crawford and Mark McEwan, Wall of Chefs has done a remarkable job casting judges from all over Canada, including cities like Edmonton, Winnipeg, and Dartmouth, who have never been represented on Food Network Canada judging panels in the past.
The 33 Canadian culinary icons who make up Wall of Chefs’ esteemed judging panel include notable hometown heroes like Saskatoon’s Christie Peters (The Hollows, Primal), Dartmouth’s Renée Lavallée (The Canteen, Little C), Edmonton’s Shane Chartrand (River Cree Resort), and Christa Bruneau-Guenther (Feast Cafe Bistro) and Mandel Hitzer (Deer + Almond) of Winnipeg.
Wall of Chefs premieres February 3, 2020 at 10 p.m. ET/PT on Food Network Canada.
