With a continuous catalogue of critically acclaimed hits that even a global pandemic couldn’t slow down, Toronto-based rock band Jane’s Party recently released its sixth studio album, Live Again.
The seven-track album showcases the band’s ongoing evolution as songwriters, while remaining true to the compelling hook- and harmony-heavy sound Jane’s Party has become known for.
Since Jane’s Party has been situated in Toronto since the band began jamming in a shared North York neighbourhood townhouse garage back in the mid 2000s, we decided they would be the perfect candidates to dish out a few food and beverage recommendations in their hometown.
We recently had a chance to chat with Jane's Party drummer Zach Sutton about where he and his bandmates love to dine around the epic culinary mecca that is Toronto.
Breakfast
The breakfast sandwich at Black Cat Espresso Bar (College and Dufferin). The truffle oil should be illegal due to how incredible it is. Also a shout out to The Federal in Little Portugal for a sit-down. I used to live in that area and the energy there is fabulous. The Federal has great food and a street view patio to take it all in.
Lunch
Debe's Roti and Doubles. "Simply the best - better than all the rest." This is a hidden gem up at Jane and Finch and now with a second location in Woodbridge. I love this spot, the people that own it, and the delicious food. The pumpkin curry is my favourite but everything is great.
Dinner
Jerusalem at Eglinton and Bathurst. The best falafel in the city. I've been saying that for 30+ years, [I've] tried most places in the city and this is still the best in my opinion. Baklava is also insanely good and the restaurant has those original Toronto vibes that are slowly and sadly disappearing.
Drinks
I'm going to say Century Park Tavern. It's a newer establishment that opened (and kept us going) throughout the pandemic. The food is fabulous but it's also just a great spot to grab a drink in the Davenport Village area of Toronto. Really quiet and local and the bar where everyone knows your name.
