If you aren't already a fan of singer-songwriter Brittany Kennell, allow us to introduce you to one of the most talented country acts in Canada.
Hailing from Beaconsfield, QC, Kennell her formative hears studying at Berklee College of Music in Boston followed by eight years immersing herself in the songwriters' meca that is Nashville. In 2016, the talented musician made history as the first Canadian to ever compete on NBC's The Voice (fittingly, on Blake Shelton's team).
In the years that followed, the Quebec-born talent garnered celebratory features for her unique sound and charming approach to songwriting from outlets like Rolling Stone, CMT, ET Canada and many more. Two years ago, Kennell also became the first French-Canadian female country singer to perform at Nashville's iconic The Grand Ole Opry. It was a performance perfectly timed with the release of her popular album I Ain't A Saint.
Many Montrealers will recognize her as a national anthem singer for the Montreal Canadiens too.
All of this is to say that Brittany Kennell has never been one to rest on her laurels.
With two singles already out this year ("Together We're Rich" and "House and a Dog"), Kennell remains front-of-mind for country music fans from coast to coast, and will she drop a new album this year? We certainly hope so!
Recently, we had the chance to chat with Kennell about her favourite places to eat and drink in her home base of Montreal. From tasty bagels, to quality fried rice and mojitos, and where to sip orange wine, check out all of her Montreal dining recommendations below.
Breakfast
Right now, I frequent St. Jo’s Cafe in Lachine quite a bit! I love their bagels, their coffee and the owners are super nice.
It’s a cute little spot right on the canal, so sometimes I’ll bike, rollerblade or walk and grab a light breakfast and coffee.
Lunch
When I used to live in the Old Port, I was a big fan of Bello on Place d'Youville because I loved their sandwiches.
I would grab one to go and sit by the water, it always made for a great little Montreal lunch.
Dinner
I love Satay Brothers in St-Henri. Woo!
Their steamed buns and fried rice? I'm a big fan! The vibe is also super cool and they make really good Mojitos too.
Drinks
I recently had drinks with a friend at BarBara in St. Henri and I really loved the vibe!
It was cute and cozy while we sipped on some orange wine. It was quite packed, but it made it that much more enjoyable to see people out and enjoying the evening.
