Although Calgary is home to more than a few of Canada’s longest-standing and most acclaimed eateries, we never fail to get excited about new concepts taking root in the city’s ever-growing food and beverage scene. With that in mind, we decided to compile a collection of cool new concepts that have opened their doors to Calgarians in the past month or two.

From the family behind Pho Dau Bo launching a new contemporary Vietnamese eatery to a wildly popular Toronto transplant serving up some seriously fluffy soufflé pancakes, to a swanky new industry hotspot specializing in sophisticated cocktails, here are five buzzworthy concept that have opened recently in Calgary.

Một Tô

The family behind Calgary’s beloved Pho Dau Bo opened up a new contemporary eatery off the corner of 16th Avenue N.W. and Centre Street that has been serving up the restaurant’s signature sate pho along with an inventive array of modern Vietnamese cuisine.

Một Tô is open Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays from 11:30 a.m to 8 p.m. and on Fridays and Saturdays from 11:30 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Toronto’s wildly popular Fuwa Fuwa made its Calgary debut earlier this month. The Japanese pancake restaurant’s name roughly translates to “fluffy fluffy” and from what we can tell, these soufflé pancakes are some of the fluffiest you’re likely to find in Canada.

Fuwa Fuwa is open Mondays through Wednesdays from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., Fridays and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m., and on Sundays from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Rising Tides Taproom

One of newest additions to Calgary’s resurging Montgomery community came toward the end of last month in the form of the coastal-inspired, Rising Tides Taproom. The warm and welcoming space offers food, games, and more, along with a rotating tap list that focuses on featuring women, BIPOC, and LGBTQS+ producers.

Rising Tides Taproom is open Wednesdays and Thursdays from 2 to 10 p.m., Fridays and Saturdays from noon to midnight, and on Sundays from noon to 9 p.m.

Somewhat reminiscent of Proof or Shelter when they first captured the hearts of cocktail-loving Calgarians, the city’s newest industry hotspot Missy’s This That specializes in serving simple, yet sophisticated libations in a stylishly understated setting,

Missy’s is open Thursdays through Mondays from 5 p.m. till late.

A Fort McMurray “premium dive bar” coming to Calgary might not make waves at first glance, but once you take a step into The Banquet bar there’s a good chance you’ll believe the hype. The strikingly large venue houses a bowling alley, billiards, games that seem to have been stolen off the set of The Price is Right, a massive patio space, and more. Kind of like if National and Home and Away had a love child.

The Banquet is open daily from 11 a.m. till late.
