An interesting new concept is getting ready to open in Calgary this month that will aim to offer an approachable but adventurous dining experience inspired by the Mediterranean and Western Europe.
The culinary program at OLEA is led by award-winning chef Ryan Blackwell (Sensei Bar), who’s menu focuses primarily around house-made pastas and pizzas that are designed to suit a variety of palates. On the beverage side of things, OLEA manager and sommelier Amane Kanai has put together a robust wine program that draws from throughout the Mediterranean region.
“We are delighted to be opening this exciting new dining concept in the heart of the city,” says chef Blackwell. “Calgarians can expect to be transported to a breezy, sun filled terrace along the coast as they explore our comfortingly familiar, yet bold menu. We look forward to sharing the textures, flavours and vivacity behind our vision of the mosaic of sunny European cuisine that will be featured on our menu.”
The interior at OLEA features a warm and understated dining room with gnocchi-inspired wood slats and tiling. The space is highlighted by an open kitchen concept along with a wall of retractable doors similar to that of Lulu Bar, which opens to a west-facing patio.
OLEA is located at 1520 14 Street S.W. and will be celebrating its grand opening on Monday, November 21. The restaurant will then be open Mondays through Thursdays from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.
