South Block Barbecue and Brewing opens in Calgary

The new North Carolina-style barbecue restaurant and brewery opens in Calgary’s Mission neighbourhood

The newest addition to Calgary’s barbecue-themed Block restaurants is officially opening today in the former Wurst space on the corner of 4th Street S.W. and 25th Avenue S.W.

Much like Hayden Block and Comery Block before it, South Block Barbecue and Brewing promises to deliver a delicious array of traditional Southern-style barbecued fare, but unlike its predecessors, South Block will also feature an in-house brewery along with 14 of its own beers on tap.

Although South Block hasn’t revealed the full food menu as of yet, the new Mission neighbourhood restaurant has stated that guests can expect to see several Hayden and Comery favourites on offer as well as a number of new North Carolina-inspired additions like whole smoked trout, apricot pork belly, and peach cobbler.

South Block also plans to make full use of its massive two-level space throughout the Stampede and beyond by way of live musical performances, an outdoor beer garden, and a slew of private events and parties.

South Block Barbecue and Brewing opens today at 4 p.m. For now, reservations can only be made via email.
