Sunterra Market opens its first store in Red Deer

Sunterra Market is opening in Red Deer with a generous welcoming gift

Yesterday, Sunterra Market opened their first-ever Red Deer location amid plenty of buzz in the city. To thank the community for its initial support, Sunterra Market Bower Place is giving more than 37,000 households in the city a complimentary family-sized meal that includes fresh housemade casarecce pasta, pomodoro sauce, and an artisan sourdough loaf with salted butter.

“This gift is our way of saying thank you to Red Deer for welcoming the Sunterra Market family,” says Sunterra Market president Glen Price. “The past twelve months have been particularly challenging for many families, and providing a comforting meal is the best way to show our investment into Red Deer and introduce ourselves as a neighbour who truly cares about the communities where we do business.”

Despite the obvious challenges of launching a new location in the midst of a pandemic, Price explains that opening in Red Deer was the perfect opportunity for the Alberta-based market to connect the city with the place the Sunterra story originated.

“Sunterra’s story began on my parents’ farm in Acme, Alberta about 100km southeast of Red Deer,” says Price. “After more than 50 years in farming and 30 years in retail in Alberta, we saw Red Deer as a perfect bridge between the two cities—an agricultural community who would understand and appreciate our focus on fresh, local and high-quality ingredients.”

Sunterra Market Bower Place will also offer catering services, home grocery delivery, and curbside pickup. The complimentary meal kit vouchers will be gradually distributed by mail to Red Deer residents beginning in March, and can be redeemed on location.
