Vancouver firefighters partner with local restaurants for community outreach initiative

Off-duty firefighters volunteer to deliver care packages containing cleaning supplies, personal hygiene products and food

Vancouver Firefighter Charities just announced a new partnership with a group of Vancouver restaurants that will allow off-duty firefighters to volunteer their time to deliver care packages to those in need.

The community outreach initiative was designed to provide aid to Vancouver’s most vulnerable citizens, who in large part, have been unable to leave their homes due to the current COVID-19 crisis.

In addition to essentials like cleaning supplies and personal hygiene products, the care packages will contain curated food hampers donated by Sequoia Company of Restaurants (The Teahouse, The Sandbar, Seasons in the Park, Cardero's), Hy’s, The Belgian Chocolate Cafe, and The Holy Crab--all of whom have temporarily closed their doors in support of social distancing.

"The COVID-19 crisis is having a devastating impact on our city and many seniors and other vulnerable people aren't able to shop for groceries, cleaning products and other potentially life-saving items," says James Docherty, executive director of Vancouver Firefighters Charities. "With the generous support of our hospitality industry partners, VFC will continue to serve Vancouver's most vulnerable population with much-needed food and supplies."
