After a decade of writing chart topping songs for country artists like Shane Yellowbird, Brett Kissel, Tenille Townes, and many more, and seeing their solo projects sidelined due to the pandemic, Calgary-based husband-and-wife musicians Troy Kokol and Joni Delaurier decided it was the perfect time to start a band together.
Following their first single as Scarlett Butler, “Looking for a Lockdown With You”–which landed them in the Billboard Canadian Top 50 and helped to raise funds for the Unison Benevolent Fund–the duo recently released their highly anticipated follow-up “Love Me Like California”.
You can catch Scarlett Butler sharing their original songs and stories during the kick off to the Blue Jay Sessions: Anniversary Edition on September 3 at The Prairie Emporium in Calgary.
Until then, here are the talented country duo’s favourite places to go for food and drink in their hometown.
Breakfast
[We love] Diner Deluxe in Bridgeland.
Gourmet stuffed French toast, amazing servers and the coffee is incredible. We also adore Cadence in Bowness for their great lattes, awesome omelettes, fun decor and easy access to the mountains on the way out of town.
Lunch
[We go to] Hayden Block for the smoked wings, pork belly and the broccoli salad. We have been known to plan many music adventures while eating meat on the patio at Hayden Block!
Dinner
We choose casual dining with a side of bocce!
La Cantina is in the basement of the Calgary Italian Club. Their arancini is better than what we have eaten in Italy, we love their pasta and the chicken parmigiana is so good you’ll want to smoke a cigarette after.
Drinks
For live music and libations, The Ironwood Stage and Grill is our most favourite haunt and was even the location for our apres-wedding bash!
For brews and buddies, we enjoy Last Best Brewing and Distilling. Fun vibe, great choice of beers. Try the Blackberry Lavender Sour!
