The Prairie States from Edmonton, AB. is bringing rocking soul country music to the people. Composed of members Jeff Dick, Mike "Nash" Nascimento, Mat Cardinal and Doc de Groot--with a focus on rhythms of 60’s soul, 70’s rock with a modern country vibe--the band has cut its own swath through the Canadian independent music scene. The band spent two years writing and woodshedding with some of Edmonton’s finest such as The Dungarees, The Boom Chucka Boys, and Jay Sparrow. Now, they are one of the Project Wild Top 12 Finalists.
Music, like food, brings people together, so bands that eat together, rock together! Here are the band's favourite places to hit up in Edmonton before, after and even during a show!
Breakfast
de Groot: Pip is our go to for breakfast. They have the best brunch in town and the chef, Brad Tebble, is top notch. Their patio is one of the best places to people watch on Whyte Ave.
Lunch
Cardinal: Seoul Fried Chicken is the best! Tucked away in a strip mall, it's always packed and it's worth the wait. The garlic soy is our favourite flavour paired with the fries. Oh, those fries!
Dinner
Nascimento: Have Mercy has a new menu designed by their head chef, Sam Chalmers. The Low Country Boil is a regular order for the band. Have Mercy is one of the coolest rooms in Edmonton and now has a menu to match.
Drinks
Dick: You'll often find us standing at the wood at On The Rocks having a nice cold Sea Change amber ale. This place is always hopping and has live music three nights a week. We just had our album release party there. (We had a few Sea Change beers that night too.)
