In Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, Lake City Cider has created a drink to celebrate Pride month.
Poet Comeau, owner and cider maker at Lake City says she’s been hoping to collaborate with Halifax Pride since Lake City Cider opened in July 2018 on Dartmouth’s Portland Street, arguably the epicenter of a new Dartmouth food and drink scene.
Comeau says that the new drink is light and approachable, made from 100 per cent Nova Scotian apple cider, infused with a blackcurrant wine.
“It’s a really beautiful light rosé, light pink in colour, with a little bit of that tartness in the berries, and a really lush apple flavour.”
“We’ve always aligned ourselves with the values, and openness and open heart that I think Pride embraces,” says Comeau, “and we always wanted to do something with them, something fun and engaging, so I thought, ‘Why not dedicate a can to Pride?’”
Lake City Cider is the official cider sponsor for The Halifax Pride Festival, which runs from July 18th to 28th, and although they will be pouring cider at most of the Pride events, the limited edition District Pride Rosé might be sold out by that time.
District Pride Rosé will be available from Friday, May 31st at the Lake City taproom on Portland Street, in cans, on tap, or as a growler-fill. The pink cider will also be available at select Nova Scotia Liquor Corporation (NSLC) locations from Monday, 3rd June.
