West Coast sisters Carli and Julie Kennedy, have been making music together since they could talk. Born and raised in the small town of Powell River, the two grew up perfecting their harmonies and live performances, eventually forming Twin Kennedy, and making their name known.
The duo just released their first holiday album, A Twin Kennedy Christmas --co-written with some of the finest Canadian and Nashville talent, and accompanied by Music City’s best musicians (including the rhythm section of Grammy award-winning group The Time Jumpers)--with originals and holiday classics. With Carli on vocals and guitar, and Julie on vocals and violin, Twin Kennedy’s sound is brought to its purest form with tracks like ‘I’m a Child Again’ and their lead single ‘Cold Weather’.
With twelve BCCMA Award nominations and two Vancouver Island Music Award wins (Country Album of the Year and Song of the Year) to their names, the three-time CCMA Award nominees are widely recognized throughout the West Coast and beyond.
With a packed schedule and always on the go, it’s not always easy for the sisters to find time for dining, but when they do, they visit some gems on the island and enjoy some time picnicking. Here are a few of their favourites.
Breakfast
Nothing beats the Blue Fox! We have celebrated so many special moments at this place, and there is no better way to celebrate than with homemade bread, eggs Benny and a mountain of fresh fruit! The food and the staff are always amazing. There’s usually a lineup out the door, but the wait is well worth it!
Lunch
Our favourite kind of lunch comes in the form of a picnic at one of Victoria’s many scenic spots. We love the Galloping Goose trail, and have spent many a day biking the paths until we find a spot to park and eat on the oceanside. The Sooke Potholes is also a favourite destination for a picnic lunch, as well the trails at Thetis Lake. We love any opportunity to soak up some West Coast sunshine!
Dinner
Pagliacci’s has the best pasta and bread in town–not to mention amazing live music. We might be a little biased because a lot of our friends play in the bands here (and we’ve been known to join in for a tune or two), but it is truly a perfect date night, whether you’re out with the girls or spending a special night with your sweetie.
Drinks
Irish Times has great drinks and great music. If you couldn’t tell, we are pretty partial to the local restaurants with live music, and Irish Times is always spot on. (I mean, who doesn’t love some great fiddle music?)
