After just less than five years of heading up the wine making program at one of the Okanagan's most well-established wineries, Quails' Gate Winery, winemaker Nikki Callaway has now taken a position with the team at Laughing Stock Vineyards. Located in the Naramata Bench just outside of Penticton, Laughing Stock is an equally celebrated winery of the region that is perhaps best known for its Portfolio red, a blend of Bordeaux varietals that gets its name from the banking world, as its original founders, David and Cynthia Enns, are former investment professionals.
“We are thrilled to have Nikki join our winemaking team with her experience and notable record of crafting beautiful wines. We recently walked through the vineyards together, shared the excitement of curating exceptional fruit and collaborating on the next generation of Laughing Stock wines,” says Laughing Stock Vineyards owner and executive winemaker, David Enns.
Callaway will work alongside David Enns, lending her extensive international winemaking experience to Laughing Stock's processes, so one can only assume more accolades will follow for the winemakers working in tandem. Back over at Quails' Gate, it remains unclear who will replace Callaway, as they will no doubt be big shoes to fill.
Last fall, Laughing Stock was acquired by Arterra Wines Canada, a company which owns other Okanagan wineries such as Osoyoos' Nk'Mip Cellars and See Ya Later Ranch, as well as the Ontario chain of wine boutiques, Wine Rack.
