Last week, The Establishment Brewing Company became the first in Calgary to join a growing global collaboration effort to provide inclusion and equality for women, BIPOC, and LGBTQIA+ within the beer industry with the recent launch of its own Brave Noise beer.
The Brave Noise is a hop-forward pale ale that sits at 4.5 ABV and features notes of orange and pineapple, supported by a soft wheat flavour and dense haze. The idea behind the Brave Noise brewing collaboration was conceived in an effort to advocate for safe spaces and inclusive workplaces for traditionally marginalized individuals by requesting brewers to be transparent with their policies and commit to long-term work.
Additionally, proceeds from the beer itself will be donated by each brewery to a charitable or non-profit organization that aligns with the mission of the collaboration—in The Establishment Brewing Company’s case, all proceeds will go toward Alberta’s Hop Forward Society.
"It's very important to us to be a part of this project because the first step in creating change is creating awareness about the problems of discrimination and harassment within the beer industry,” explains Establishment Brewing Company production manager Natasha Peiskar. “I am really proud of the work our team and ownership group have put into [the brewery's] values and code of conduct and the various opportunities we have had to learn about being an inclusive space."
The Establishment Brewing Company’s Brave Noise can be ordered from the brewery’s online store. A list of participating breweries and home brewers from across Canada can be found online.
