Eon Sinclair and Jay Malinowski (best known as Bedouin Soundclash) have been making music together for over twenty years and are still going strong. Winning a JUNO Award in 2006, largely thanks to their smash hit "When The Night Feels My Song", helped cement them as one of the most memorable duos in the Canadian music scene.
With their latest body of work We Will Meet in a Hurricane released in late October, the two are gearing up for a busy new year promoting it and sharing their new music with crowds across Canada beyond.
Based in Toronto, Bedouin Soundclash bassist Eon Sinclair has fallen in love with the city's robust food scene over the years. From delicious Caribbean food in the GTA to a longstanding breakfast spot, he says that his picks are really just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the metropolis.
"This was one of the hardest interviews...Toronto is massive, so it has a little bit of everything, and I am sure when you come visit, you’ll love trying different spots out as much as I do!"
Breakfast
There might be about 5 locations across downtown now, but the first Impact Kitchen is blocks from my place. I eat a gluten-free and dairy-free diet, and they have great options. The Power Breakfast and their Toasts are just well balanced in taste and great combos of clean ingredients, hits the spot everytime!
Before my diet changed, Le Petit Déjeuner was another favourite. Cool little café with a homey feel and amazing waffles and eggs.
Lunch
You have to make a move to Scarborough in the east end of the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) and check out Chris Jerk one time. Order the Jerk Chicken Shawarma Meal or try that as a poutine if you eat cheese and you’ll be back more times, believe.
Dinner
I’ve been a longtime fan of Sukho Thai, but the newer level up resto in the family is Pai. Gotta say, the Khao Soi and Gaeng Massaman curry are both ridiculously tasty and proper at Thai Hot spice levels as I usually order them at.
You can go to Pai Uptown or Downtown; I recommend Uptown first for the space, music (sometimes live), vibes and bathroom décor.
Drinks
I've got 3 choices for you depending on what your style is:
- Eastbound Brewing Company if you want a fun atmosphere for chatting, board games, Toronto teams on TV, friendliest staff, awesome in-house brews, and equally awesome food.
- BarChef (pictured) for a unique vibe and some incredible cocktails that have wild colours and smoke and things like that on a more dressy night out.
- The Comrade is pretty cool for a more chill, indie, punk vibe. Really dope space and lighting, always good music and a balance of cocktails and beer to keep you going until the wee hours.
