Although we typically try to avoid putting too much emphasis on restaurant ranking lists, it is kind of cool to think that for the first time ever, Canadians will have the opportunity to ring in the New Year at Michelin Star and Bib Gourmand-recognized restaurants on their home soil.
With that in mind, we’ve been keeping our eyes peeled for interesting New Year’s Eve experiences and the latest multi-course menus to catch our attention come from Vancouver’s Anh and Chi.
The Bib Gourmand eatery will be offering up both a five-course tasting menu and an eight-course tasting menu, which each come complete with welcome bubbles and an amuse bouche trio featuring cinnamon-dusted rice and pork balls, freshly shucked Kusshi oyster, and cognac liver pate.
Some of the other courses present on both menus include tempura soft shell Dungeness crab with wok-fried jasmine rice, fried shallots, cilantro, and spicy garlic aioli; smoked Fraser Valley duck breast smoked with star anise, pea tips, and tamarind vinaigrette; and a Vietnamese coffee gelato with sweetened condensed milk foam and almond crisp.
For the eight-course menu, guests will also receive a chargrilled octopus with wild water vegetables and caramelized glaze; an 18-hour bone broth and wagyu beef Phở; and traditional Vietnamese mushrooms with caramelised onions, black pepper, steamed rice sheets, and fresh shaved French Burgundy truffles.
Anh and Chi will also be hosting a lineup of local musicians throughout the night, and as always, guests will have the option to skip the lines and reserve a table by making a donation to one of the restaurant’s charity partners. The two New Year’s Eve menus along with the entertainment schedule for the evening can be found online.
