After a recent stint cooking in Tokyo, one of the Canadian Prairies most well-known chefs, Mandel Hitzer, has returned home to Winnipeg with more creative ideas than ever, known well for both his restaurant deer + almond in Winnipeg's Exchange District, as well as RAW: Almond.
food and the power feeding people is an incredible, integral part of life. i am honoured that I have chosen this path to be such a big part of my journey in life. food has taken my on so many powerful adventures: the frozen river, to churchill, island weddings, countless tables of family and friends, #diarysofthepopuprestaurant, traveling to eat at some of the worlds best restaurants. here is the image for Tokyo. Joe, Will and the design team are bringing Canada to Japan, an instillation to feel the northern lights and the warmth of being surrounded by snow;) so excited to share this photo!
Heading into its sixth season, RAW: Almond is a pop-up winter dinner series where a dedicated venue is built in the middle of the frozen river just a short walk from Winnipeg's The Forks market. Over the course of three weeks, chefs from across Canada come to collaborate and cook multi-course dinners each night for Winnipeggers and tourists alike.
There aren't many details available as of yet about this new, out-of-town dinner series that will take place at Lake Winnipeg aside from its dates (December 29 - January 7). The one week only temporary restaurant will feature a special guest chef cooking alongside Hitzer and the structure will be designed by RAW: Almond co-founder, Joe Kalturnyk.
