Global hospitality brand 1 Hotels officially opened the doors to its first Canadian property today with the launch of 1 Hotel Toronto, and to celebrate the grand opening and affirm its commitment to sustainability, the hotel has announced that it will plant 2021 trees throughout the city.
“1 Hotel Toronto sets a new standard for responsible luxury hospitality and serves as a city escape where guests can connect with nature,” said 1 Hotels Founder and CEO and Chairman of Starwood Capital Group, Barry Sternlicht. “1 Hotels embraces the idea that living well includes protecting the natural beauty around us and we look forward to introducing our mission to the like-minded city of Toronto.”
Since its initial launch in 2015, 1 Hotels has been committed to providing guests with a luxury hotel experience while keeping the environment front of mind, and its first Canadian property aims to uphold that ethos. In addition to creating design elements with raw materials sourced from throughout the province, 1 Hotel Toronto employs an on-site composting system to turn all organic wet waste into reusable soil for the 3,300 plants on its property.
The hotel will also feature four culinary concepts and an in-house marketplace that each showcase ingredients both from local producers and from the hotel’s own garden pavilion–which also serves as an outdoor venue.
