This week, the Philippine Department of Tourism announced a new partnership with Philippine consulates and embassies across the country that will bring a new month-long celebration of Filipino culture and cuisine to Canada this upcoming April.

During the inaugural Filipino Restaurant Month, a collection of restaurants in Vancouver, Calgary, Toronto, and Ottawa will be showcasing the vast variety and diverse flavours of Filipino food and beverage from various regions throughout the country.

“Filipino Restaurant Month aims to introduce and promote the Philippines to the Canadian mainstream market as a destination for unique gastronomic experiences by featuring the rich Filipino cuisine and food as cultural heritage through our partner restaurants across Canada,” says Soleil Tropicales, Tourism Attaché of Philippine Department of Tourism - San Francisco. "Filipino food is integral to the country’s diverse culture with each region having their own unique and traditional recipes that are passed on from generation to generation—from traditional dishes such as 'Adobo' to unique dining experiences such as 'Kamayan' (also known as “Boodle Fight”).

While a month-long journey through the 7,641 islands of the Philippines is obviously enticing enough on its own, to make the first Filipino Restaurant Month even more exciting, diners will also be able to enter to win a number of local and national prizes throughout the month.

More information along with a full list of participating restaurants is expected to be revealed online in the near future.
