Chef Hemant Bhagwani’s Egg Bird opens in Toronto

The Leaside neighbourhood brunch spot will offer elevated comfort food

The latest venture from internationally-renowned chef Hemant Bhagwani opens its doors today in Toronto, specializing in elevated, gourmet comfort food.

Egg Bird follows a series of successful concepts Bhagwani has brought to the Bayview strip since 2007. This time around, chef Bhagwani will provide his take on the traditional, neighbourhood brunch spot.

All of Egg Bird’s beef burgers are made with 100 per cent brisket from Cumbrae’s and topped with a cage-free egg. The Toronto eatery will also offer hand-cut and thrice-fried Belgian frites, frozen custard, and shakes that range from blackberry cheesecake to vanilla-coconut.

Also on the menu at Egg Bird will be a range of fried chicken options from Chubb’s Kevin Diaz. The former chef at Popa plans to provide twists on comfort food classics, taking inspiration from all corners of the world, from Japan to Mumbai.

“Fried chicken is one of those foods that everyone loves, and every culture has their own take on it. We have an ambitious goal of having the best fried chicken in Toronto,” says Diaz.

To celebrate its grand opening, Egg Bird will be featuring a "buy one get one free" offer on all its chicken sandwiches until Sunday, July 12.

Egg Bird will be open seven days a week, from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Takeout and delivery will be available via Uber Eats.
