Details revealed for Shangri-La Hotel Vancouver's new restaurant Miantiao

Vancouver's Shangri-La Hotel has a new restaurant in the works

After announcing in March that their newest restaurant concept will open sometime this summer in the Shangri-La Hotel Vancouver space formerly occupied by MARKET by Jean-George, this week, award-winning B.C.-based Kitchen Table Restaurants revealed the culinary team that will helm the kitchen at Miantiao.

Derived from the Mandarin word for “noodle”, Miantiao will feature a blend of Italian and Chinese ingredients and techniques–served in two unique dining spaces–under the leadership of acclaimed Kitchen Table culinary director Alex Tung, whose decorated portfolio includes roles alongside legendary chefs such as Jean-George, Daniel Boulud, and Christian Delouvrier.

“From the design to our menus to our style of service, Miantiao embraces rituals shared by both Chinese and Italian cultures surrounding food, family and memories made and celebrated around the table,” says chef Tung. “I’m personally excited to transport locals and visitors alike on a unique and stimulating journey for the senses that celebrates the many similarities and culinary traditions that have long been shared by both countries.”

Joining Tung in the kitchen will be executive chef Tret Jordan (Loden Hotel, Wentworth Hospitality) and chef de cuisine Justine Lee (Superflux, Crowbar), while the front-of-house will be headed by Shangri-La Vancouver veterans such as general manager Hao-Yang Wang, bar manager Gianluigi Bosco, and wine director David Steele.

Further details regarding Miantiao’s food and beverage menus and the exact opening date will be revealed in the coming weeks.
