This week, Calgary’s Hearts Choices announced on social media that they will be holding a special fundraiser in memory of its co-owner Nan Thammanatr, who passed away after a brief illness on January 31.

As the figurehead of the Hearts Choices franchise since its first location opened up in 2011, Nan was a passionate advocate for vegan cuisine with an incredibly warm and benevolent spirit that never failed to uplift the people around her.

“Nan put her absolute heart and soul into cooking vegan food with the intention to feed people from a place of love, and also to make it easy to choose a vegan meal over one with meat.  Saving as many animals' souls as possible was Nan's mission in her life,” Hearts Choices shared over Instagram. “She was a truly special, one of a kind person.  She lived her life without fear, and with a boundless kindness and compassion that was infectious. Her passion for food, love for life and genuine sweetness always had people falling in love with her.”

To celebrate Nan’s remarkable life, Hearts Choices will be offering guests a 15 per cent discount on all food until Sunday, February 6. Guests will then have the opportunity to donate the discount to Nan’s two favourite charities, The Alice Sanctuary and AARCS, both of which Hearts Choices says reflect the values of compassion, selflessness, and charity that Nan has always loved and supported.

Hearts Choices Cafe Market is open Monday through Saturday from 11:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. and at the Calgary Farmers’ Market on Sundays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
