Food Day Canada is fast approaching and in addition to the numerous chef and restaurateur-driven dining opportunities that will be on offer throughout the country, this year’s celebration will offer Canadians a variety of new ways to show their love for Canada’s incredible culinary community.
Leading up to the annual celebration on Saturday, July 31, Food Day Canada is encouraging anyone who loves Canadian ingredients and the people who bring them to life to shop, cook, and dine exclusively Canadian.
The initiative–which was launched years ago by the late local food advocate and award-winning writer Anita Stewart–has created an interactive map that Canadians can use to find participating chefs and restaurants that have pledged to support Canadian farmers and agricultural innovation. It will also note various landmarks from coast to coast that will light up with red and white on July 31 to commemorate the food-centric celebration.
The Food Day Canada map will be updated regularly until July 31, but some of the restaurants currently signed on to take part include Pluvio Restaurants and Rooms in B.C., Saskatchewan’s Harvest Eatery, Garrison House in Ontario, and Nova Scotia’s Founder’s House Dining.
No matter how you choose to celebrate the 18th annual Food Day Canada on July 31, by sharing your experience online using the hashtag #FoodDayCanada, you will be entered for a chance to win a great Canadian food prize basket.
