New limited-edition bourbon whisky launches in Alberta for a great cause

Smooth Amber and Sovereign Canada collaborate with local bartenders to support industry initiatives

Last week, spirit brands Smooth Ambler and Sovereign Wine and Spirits revealed the results of a months-long collaboration with the Bartenders Benevolent Fund and the Canadian Professional Bartenders Association that saw four limited-edition bourbon whiskies hit the shelves of select retailers across Alberta.

Each of the four renditions of the Custom Old Scout Bourbon have been poured from Smooth Ambler casks that were hand-selected by members of the BBF and the CPBA, ranging from 56.4 per cent ABV to 58.4 per cent ABV.

“During the summer, Sovereign Canada approached the Bartenders Benevolent Fund to collaborate on a whiskey to raise money for the fund. I met with Alan Screaton (Sovereign Alberta) to taste different samples from Smooth Ambler Custom Old Scout Bourbon casks to decide what would be bottled for the BBF,” explains SAIT hospitality management instructor Madeleine MacDonald.

For each bottle sold, Sovereign Canada has committed to donating $5 to both the BBF and the CPBA ($10 donation per bottle total) with the goal of raising a total of $7,000 to support ongoing programs that include mental health assistance, food insecurity funds, and pet food funds.

The limited-edition Custom Old Scout Bourbon Whiskies are available for purchase at select retailers throughout Alberta and can be shipped out of province upon request.
