With one of the most temperate climates in the country, and amazing accessibility to fresh seafood, we're surprised more restaurateurs haven't flocked to Vancouver Island. As the years have gone by, the island food scene has become more evolved, but if you ask us, there's still plenty of room for new contemporary dining options.
This week, restaurateurs Eli Brennan, Alan Tse, and (chef) Todd Bright announced a new venture just north of Nanaimo. Nanoose Bay Café is slated to open in June 2023 and promises to bring together west coast food culture, local seafood (of course) and a contemporary culinary approach in a picturesque location within the Fairwinds Marina.
The concept will consist of a full-service restaurant, coffee shop and market, and will also boast a large patio for all one's oceanside dining (and cocktail-sipping) needs. Nanoose Bay Café is currently being constructed within the retained exterior of the historic Schooner Cove Hotel building.
“We know the importance of this location and building to the community,” said Brennan who also owns Qualicum Beach Cafe and Vancouver's Water St. Cafe. “It’s our goal that the Nanoose Bay Cafe will be much more than a restaurant and bar. We hope it will be a hub, a gathering place for the community, and an exciting culinary destination for visitors.
