Behind the Name: Regina's Skye Cafe and Bistro

How this sustainably-minded Saskatchewan eatery got its name

With sustainability and simplicity at the forefront of their restaurant vision, husband-and-wife duo Louise Lu and Milton Rebello have been operating Skye Café and Bistro in Regina for the past five years. Skye resides in a unique location, being nestled on the grounds of the Saskatchewan Science Centre, but that just adds to its charm.

Since opening in 2016, the Rebellos have curated environmentally-conscious dishes that not only celebrate locally grown Saskatchewan ingredients, but also plenty of Ocean Wise-approved sustainable seafood.

The restaurant was named after their first-born daughter Skye. Originally, they wanted to name the restaurant Liv n’ Skye Café to incorporate both their daughter’s names, but as Milton Rebello explais, it legally wasn't possible.

“We were not able to register the name as we live in the land of the living sky and [there are] a few businesses with similar names,” says Milton Rebello. "Now, our second-born calls us out for not having a cafe with her name!"

Skye Café and Bistro is open for brunch and lunch service Tuesdays to Saturdays until 3 p.m.
