This Calgary brewer is considered Canada's best for 2020

Some exciting news for the Calgary brewing community filtered in over the weekend as Common Crown Brewing Co. was just awarded Brewery of the Year at the Canadian Brewing Awards.

Established in 2013, the Canadian Brewing Awards is an awards program consisting of 55 different categories that was created to help celebrate and showcase the depth and breadth of the country's craft brewing scene. Past winners of the "best in show" award include Clifford Brewing Co. (Hamilton, ON), Dageraad Brewing (Burnaby, B.C.) and Side Launch Brewing Company (Collingwood, ON).

“To come through a pandemic and stay together as a team, adjust to a new business model and be honoured in this way is very humbling. It wasn’t just a great win for us, but a win for Alberta beer,” says brewery founder, Damon Moreau.

Common Crown Brewing Co. is the first Alberta brewery--as well as the first brewery not from B.C. or Ontario--to take home the top title. In addition to that, the brewery also took home gold in three categories: North American Style Wheat (Ploughman Wheat Ale), Scotch Ale (Andys Wee Heavy) and Brown Ale (Coppersmith Brown Ale).
